Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has revealed plans to expand access to eye care services in Nigeria through the National Eye Centre Act (Amendment) Bill.
Speaking at the Charity Champions Gala Night in Abuja, Kalu expressed concern over the estimated 24 million Nigerians suffering from sight loss and highlighted his commitment to providing legislative solutions.
He commended the organizer, Dr. Yahaya Attom, and former Super Eagles legends, Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo, for their humanitarian efforts, particularly in eye care and education.
Kalu announced that his foundation has treated over 4,000 constituents with eye problems in the last year, demonstrating his dedication to assisting underserved communities.
He emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the eye care crisis and applauded the attendees for their commitment to making a difference.
