Deputy Speaker Kalu Mourns Former IGP Solomon Arase


Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has expressed deep sadness over the death of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Ehigiator Arase.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kalu described Arase as a visionary leader whose tenure as police chief was marked by innovative reforms and an unwavering commitment to justice. He noted that the late Arase’s contributions to law enforcement in Nigeria had left an indelible mark that would continue to inspire future generations of police officers.

“Former IGP Arase was no doubt a distinguished Police Chief. He was a symbol of unwavering dedication to duty. His passing is very shocking and has indeed left an unfillable void in our nation’s law enforcement community,” the Deputy Speaker said.

Kalu also extended his condolences to the late Arase’s family, the current Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the entire Nigeria Police Force. He prayed that the memories of Arase’s remarkable life and service would bring comfort to his loved ones, while also wishing his soul eternal rest.

Arase, who died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the age of 69, served as the 18th Inspector-General of Police from April 2015 to June 2016, and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission between January 2023 and June 2024.
