Deputy Speaker Kalu Honored with Prestigious Michael Okpara Leadership Award


Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has received the esteemed Michael Okpara Leadership Award for his exceptional representation and leadership in the National Assembly and Nigeria.

The award, presented by the Advisory Board and Organizing Committee of the Michael Okpara Leadership Lecture and Award, recognizes Kalu’s dedication to quality representation and leadership. The event, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, was attended by prominent Nigerians from various fields.

Kalu’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Daniel Akwari, accepted the award on his behalf. The recognition highlights Kalu’s leadership acumen, particularly in his role as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Constitutional Review. He sponsored the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill, recently signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Deputy Speaker has also initiated various legislative interventions, including the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), aimed at promoting peace and addressing insecurity and sociological challenges in the South East region.

In his remarks, Kalu expressed gratitude to the Michael Okpara Leadership Award organizers, stating that the honor motivates him to continue serving the people of the South East and Nigeria.

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, former Senate President Senator Pius Anyim Pius, and several state governors.
