In a vibrant meeting held at the National Assembly in Abuja, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, emphasized the pivotal role of Nigerian youth in driving the nation’s development and security. Welcoming the leadership of the Green Assembly Initiative and the Nigeria Youth Organization, Kalu underscored that the youth represent the energetic core of Nigeria’s future.
Addressing his visitors, Kalu highlighted that young Nigerians are essential in fostering innovation, progress, and social change. “Without the youth, the nation’s potentials remain dormant,” he said. “With their energy, these potentials become kinetic, driving significant impacts across various sectors of our economy and in policy implementation.”
Kalu also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic focus on youth empowerment. He described Tinubu as a leader who actively seeks out and engages the brightest young minds, entrusting them with key responsibilities, including ministerial roles. “The President is intentional in leveraging the dynamism that youth bring, and they have not disappointed him,” Kalu noted.
The Deputy Speaker encouraged the Green Assembly Initiative and the Nigeria Youth Organization to strengthen their collaboration with the parliament. “Your work in nation-building, entrepreneurship, security awareness, and promoting national unity is commendable. The House of Representatives recognizes the vital role you play and is committed to supporting your initiatives,” he said.
Kalu invited these organizations to establish direct communication with the House Committee on Youth Development. “This partnership will ensure that the aspirations and potentials of young Nigerians are effectively harnessed for national growth,” he added.
Amb. Duka Alamboye, President of the Green Assembly Initiative, expressed gratitude for Kalu’s efforts to promote peace and security, particularly in the Southeast. He shared the organization’s plans for the year, including participation in the upcoming Democracy Day on June 12 and the Day of the African Child, emphasizing the importance of skills acquisition and support for victims of domestic violence.
“In promoting informal education and skills acquisition, we aim to reduce youth unemployment and steer young people away from crime,” Alamboye said. “We look forward to collaborating with your office to build the Nigeria we all hope for.”
Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s interaction with youth leaders highlights a significant commitment to leveraging the capabilities of Nigerian youth. By fostering partnerships and supporting youth-driven initiatives, the House of Representatives aims to build a secure, prosperous, and unified Nigeria. The future of the nation indeed rests on the energy and idealism of its young people, making them Nigeria’s most valuable asset.
