The Ministry of Defence reaffirms Commitment to Constitutional Government .
The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, has emphasized the strength of democracy in Nigeria and warned against any attempts to undermine it.
This is contained in a statement by Director Information, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry Henshaw Ogubike, in Abuja.
Addressing concerns about potential calls for the unconstitutional change of government, Matawalle denounced such actions as the work of “agents of darkness.”
The Minister sternly warned coup plotters, asserting that the military is aligned with democratic principles and focused on its constitutional duty of defending the constitution.
He emphasized that under the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, there would be no tolerance for any attempt to subvert the democratic process.
Matawalle highlighted the dangers of coups, stating that those advocating for such actions do not have Nigeria’s best interests at heart.
He stressed the importance of elected leaders leading the nation while the military fulfills its duty of protecting the constitution.
The Minister also addressed the dissemination of false information and inciting statements aimed at destabilizing the country.
He directed the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to apprehend those behind such acts and bring them to justice.
Furthermore, Matawalle reassured Nigerians of the professionalism of the Armed Forces, emphasizing their commitment to defending the constitution and upholding democracy.
He urged all citizens to support the government’s efforts in building a greater Nigeria.
