Defence Minister Meets Service Chiefs to Review National Security, Vows Enhanced Support for Troops


The Honourable Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, on Tuesday held a high-level operational briefing with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Service Chiefs at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, as part of renewed efforts to address the country’s persistent security challenges.

The meeting was aimed at providing the Minister with a comprehensive update on the current security situation across the country, particularly in regions grappling with insurgency, banditry, and communal unrest. Areas of focus included the North East, Plateau State, North West, North Central, and South East, where military operations are ongoing.

According to a statement signed by Sani Datti, on behalf of the Director of Information and Public Relations, the security situations in Borno and Plateau states were discussed in detail, with the development of targeted strategies to restore peace and stability in those areas.

During the session, the Armed Forces outlined their ongoing efforts, operational challenges, and strategic plans aimed at safeguarding lives and property. Emphasis was placed on strengthening intelligence coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and resource deployment to enhance operational effectiveness. 

Minister Badaru reiterated his commitment to working closely with the military to evolve lasting solutions to the country’s security problems. He also conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces, calling for a proactive, intelligence-led, and community-based approach to defence.

“The briefing has given me a clearer picture of the operational realities on the ground, complementing what I have seen during my field visits,” the Minister said. “We are determined to support our gallant troops with the necessary tools and policies needed to win the fight against insecurity and ensure that every Nigerian lives in safety and dignity.”

The session reflects ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Defence to stay ahead of evolving threats and to ensure the security and stability of the nation.
