The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has commended the Namibian Command and Staff College for its role in promoting defence education and fostering regional cooperation across Africa.
The Minister gave the commendation on Tuesday when he received a 26-member delegation from the Namibian Command and Staff College (Course 05/2025), led by the Commandant, Brigadier Benhard Erastus, during a study tour to Nigeria at his office in Ship House, Abuja.
Represented by the Director, Joint Service Department, Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi, Minister Badaru reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to share experiences, strengthen partnerships, and deepen mutual understanding with Namibia and other African nations in the quest for continental peace and security.
He highlighted the historic ties between both countries, recalling Nigeria’s active role during Africa’s liberation struggles, and stressed the importance of unity among African states to counter external forces seeking to undermine the continent.
In his remarks, Brigadier Erastus expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government and the Ministry of Defence for the warm reception. He noted that the delegation chose Nigeria because of its strategic leadership role in the region and to gain deeper insights into defence policy, civil-military relations, and regional security operations.
The visit featured a presentation on the Ministry of Defence architecture by the Joint Service Department, followed by an interactive session. The Namibian delegation later presented a plaque of honour to the Ministry, which was received on its behalf by Mrs. Olaniyi.
