The Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru Abubakar is currently attending the Schuman Security & Defence Forum in Brussels, Belgium.
The Forum, which commenced on Wednesday features high-level discussions on global security and defence strategies.
In his keynote presentation, Minister Badaru addressed Nigeria’s security situation and the strategic measures taken to confront contemporary security challenges.
He credited the successes in combating insurgency and terrorism to the comprehensive defence and security policies implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR since the start of his administration.
Minister Badaru emphasized the importance of enhancing regional and international security partnerships, improving local defence production, strengthening maritime security, and tackling emerging security threats. He highlighted significant advancements in military funding, personnel welfare, training, and counter-terrorism policies aimed at combating groups like Boko Haram.
He stressed that the critical dialogues at the Forum aim to enhance international security cooperation and address contemporary defence challenges.
The Forum, he noted, provides a vital platform for Nigeria to engage with global partners and reinforce its commitment to regional and international peace and stability.
The Schuman Security & Defence Forum brings together EU Ministers of Defence, representatives from partner countries, international and regional organisations, think tanks, and academia to exchange views on common security challenges and responses.
This year’s Forum, the second edition, follows the success of the inaugural event last year and takes place amid heightened global security concerns.
It presents an important opportunity for countries to collaborate on addressing common security issues.
