The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements in Oko and surrounding communities, with a recent raid on a notorious drug den resulting in the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of a large cache of hard drugs.
This decisive action follows the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, who has consistently emphasized the critical link between drug abuse and rising crime rates. According to the Commissioner, “Drugs are the oxygen behind most criminal activities,” hence the urgent need to disrupt their circulation.
In the early hours of Tuesday, 25th June 2025, operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad from Enugwu Ukwu stormed the hideout in Oko, successfully apprehending the suspects and seizing various illicit substances.

The suspects, identified as Joseph Chukwura, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Ifeanyi Agbanari, Igwe Chineche, Mmadufor Chinecherem, Chibueze Chukwumankpam, and Mmadubom Uchenna — all males aged between 24 and 35 — are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Investigators are hopeful the ongoing probe will yield vital information, particularly regarding a recent disturbing incident in the area.
The Police Command has expressed optimism that the operation will significantly curb criminal activities and lead to the dismantling of more criminal networks in Oko and beyond.
Further updates on the investigation and related security measures are expected in due course.
