CP Igwe Announces Arrest of Suspects in Brigadier General’s Murder

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspects involved in the murder and robbery of Brigadier General Uwen Harold Udokwere (rtd.).

The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, shared the significant development during a press briefing today, underscoring ongoing efforts to combat crime in the region.

Arrest of Notorious Murder and Armed Robbery Suspects

On June 23, 2024, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives from the Utako Division, led by CSP Victor Godfrey, apprehended Ibrahim Rabiu (33), Nafiu Jamil (33), Aliyu Abdullahi (47), and Mohammed Nuhu (28), all residents of Apo.

The suspects confessed to attacking and fatally stabbing Brigadier General Udokwere at his Sunshine Homes Estate residence in Kabusa on June 22.

The weapon used in the murder and the deceased’s stolen phone were recovered. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and recover the pistols taken from the General. The suspects will be charged to court following the investigation.

Capture of Wanted and Notorious Kidnap Suspects

In a related operation on May 26, 2024, the FCT police’s anti-kidnapping unit arrested Isa Mohammed Ibrahim and his brother Nasiru Mohammed, alias Danger.

Isa, an escapee from the 2022 Kuje prison break, and Nasiru are implicated in a December 2023 kidnapping at the Livestock Estate in Dei-Dei, where 17 victims were abducted and ransoms collected.

The brothers revealed their involvement with a larger syndicate led by fugitives Ardo and Mallam. Police recovered 91 rustled cattle, four sheep, and an AK-47 rifle from the suspects, who will be prosecuted shortly.

Dismantling of Kidnapping Logistics Network

Between June 12 and 14, 2024, the anti-kidnapping unit executed a series of raids, resulting in the capture of key figures within the kidnapping logistics network:

Sunday Musa (alias Dan Gwari): Chief informant and logistics supplier, responsible for facilitating the movement of essential supplies and funds to the kidnappers. Musa has admitted to distributing N20 million on behalf of the groups and receiving N300,000 in compensation.

Ruqqaya Ibrahim: Arrested en route to deliver supplies to the kidnappers, led police to the recovery of 14 rustled cows.

Musa Idris (alias Dogo) and Aminu Ibrahim:** Informants and logistics suppliers linked to the kidnapping of Mrs. Ajayi O. Olatunde, a staff of FCTA.

Zainnu Abubakar: A POS operator who unwittingly facilitated financial transactions for the kidnappers.

Yahaya Abubakar: Employed to manage stolen cattle for N30,000 monthly, identified Musa as the logistics chief for his group.

These individuals will be charged in court following further investigations.

Additional Arrests in Joint Operations

Further joint operations by the Utako and Kubwa police divisions on June 18 and 19, 2024, led to the arrests of Umar Adamu (alias Walejo), a notorious informant and ammunition supplier, and Abdurahaman Abubakar (alias Juli), involved in kidnappings along the Abuja/Kogi road.

CP Igweh reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with residents to eradicate crime in the Federal Capital Territory.

“I want to reiterate my commitment and willingness to always work with you (residents of FCT) to defeat crime in all its forms in the Federal Capital Territory,” he stated.

The press briefing concluded with CP Igweh expressing gratitude to the press and the public for their continued support and vigilance.
