Communal Violence: Army Condemns Killing of Peacekeeping Troops, Vows Justice

The Nigerian Army has strongly condemned the brutal murder of troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion during a peacekeeping mission in the Niger Delta region.

The incident occurred amidst a communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba Communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State.

The troops, dedicated to maintaining peace and security, were viciously attacked by armed youths from Okuama Community in a gruesome and heartless manner.

The perpetrators even desecrated their remains by ripping out their hearts, betraying the very mission the soldiers were there to uphold.

In the face of this heinous crime, the Okuama Community has resorted to propaganda instead of cooperating with authorities to apprehend the culprits.

The Army has dismissed these attempts to justify the criminal acts and emphasized that there will be no tolerance for such atrocities.

While assuring law-abiding citizens that there will be no reprisal attacks, the Army has intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Toareed Lagbaja, has directed a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, reiterated the Army’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice, leaving no hiding place for them.

The Army’s stance underscores its commitment to upholding peace and security in the region, despite the tragic loss of its personnel.
