COAS Unveils CIMIC Intervention Projects in Taraba, Commends Project Executors for Exemplary Service to Nigerian Army


In a move to bolster community support and enhance civil-military relations, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), officially inaugurated the COAS Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Projects in Jen community, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, 2 May 2024, marked the unveiling of two significant projects: the Sports and Cultural Center, named after Major General Boniface Robert Sinjen, and the Multi-Purpose Center, christened after Major General Henry Tafida Wesley.

These projects, spearheaded by the COAS office, aim to provide essential amenities and infrastructure to communities associated with Nigerian Army senior officers.

During the commissioning, Gen Lagbaja commended the dedication and service of Major Generals Boniface Sinjen and Henry Wesley, lauding their commitment to both the Nigerian Army and the nation.

He highlighted their unblemished service records and described them as exemplary officers who have garnered admiration both locally and internationally.

The COAS emphasized the importance of community support in addressing security challenges and acknowledged the vital role of Nigerians as critical partners in national security efforts.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support, as well as to the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, and the people of the state for their cooperation with the Nigerian Army.

In his remarks, Major General Boniface Sinjen, Chief of Operations (Army), underscored the significance of the CIMIC projects in fostering community development and nurturing young talents, particularly in sports.

He emphasized the center’s role in empowering athletes to represent their community, state, and nation on various platforms.

The event was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), senior military and paramilitary officers, among others, reflecting the broad support and collaboration behind the initiative.

The commissioning of these projects not only signifies the Nigerian Army’s commitment to community development but also strengthens the bond between the military and civilian populations, ultimately contributing to national security and prosperity.
