COAS Lays Foundation for Special Forces School in Nasarawa

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has laid the foundation for the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NASFS) in Doma, Nasarawa State, in a move aimed at boosting the Army’s combat readiness and redefining the training of its elite troops.

Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, Lt. Gen. Oluyede described the project as “a legacy of excellence, bravery and sacrifice,” noting that the school would produce highly skilled warriors capable of dominating complex and unconventional battlefields.

He said the initiative marks a strategic leap in strengthening the Army’s capacity to safeguard the nation’s future.

The school, originally established in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, as part of the Army’s response to evolving security threats, has now been relocated to Doma to provide an enhanced environment for advanced, mission-specific training.

The Buni Yadi site has been converted to the Nigerian Army Acclimatization Center to prepare troops for the unique challenges of operations in the North East.

The COAS also commissioned two major projects in Doma — the new 4 Special Forces Command Headquarters and a modern Officers’ Mess, equipped with operational workspaces, conference facilities, and recreational amenities aimed at enhancing the welfare, morale, and effectiveness of personnel.

Earlier in Lafia, General Oluyede paid a courtesy visit to Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, where he emphasized the importance of civilian-military collaboration in securing the country. Governor Sule commended the Army’s role in stabilizing the state, enabling agriculture and mining activities to thrive despite regional security pressures.

The event concluded with a symbolic tree-planting exercise, a gift presentation to the COAS by the Andoma of Doma in recognition of his leadership, and a group photograph with dignitaries.
