COAS Gen. Lagbaja Urges Strategic Leadership Development at Air Force War College


Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), delivered a compelling message to participants of Air War Course 10/2024 at the Air Force War College Nigeria (AFWCN), emphasizing the importance of strategic leadership development and subordinates’ empowerment.

Speaking during his lecture titled “Military Strategic Leadership: My Perspective” in Makurdi, Benue State, Gen. Lagbaja highlighted the pivotal role of strategic leadership in fostering cohesion within the Armed Forces and achieving national security objectives.

Gen. Lagbaja underscored the necessity for exposure to training, particularly in Civil Military Relations (CMR), to enhance personnel administration and operational effectiveness in addressing contemporary security challenges.

He urged participants to delegate responsibilities and provide on-the-job training to subordinates, fostering competence development while carrying out routine duties.

Additionally, the COAS encouraged active involvement in implementing the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act 2023, aimed at domestic defense equipment manufacturing to reduce reliance on foreign procurement.

He commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing the act, demonstrating crucial political will for national security enhancement.

The course, attended by participants from various military branches, civilians, and foreign delegates, serves as a platform for cultivating strategic leadership skills essential for effective defense management and national security.

Gen. Lagbaja’s address reflects a commitment to equipping future leaders with the vision and capabilities necessary to navigate complex security landscapes and safeguard the nation’s interests.
