The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Tuesday decorated the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, with the rank of Colonel, describing her elevation as a well-deserved honour for her dedication and exemplary service to the Nigerian Army.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, brought together senior military officers, retired generals and invited guests. 
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi, the COAS praised Colonel Anele’s professionalism and consistent commitment to strengthening the Army’s public engagement. 
General Shaibu reiterated that public trust remains a strategic enabler of successful military operations, especially in an era where timely and credible information is essential.
He urged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to deepen its efforts in promoting transparency, accountability and prompt communication on the activities of the Nigerian Army, noting that such efforts help to reinforce national confidence in the Armed Forces. 
He further charged the newly decorated Colonel to continue upholding the highest standards of discipline, loyalty and ethical conduct. The COAS also encouraged her to mentor younger officers within the Directorate to enhance institutional capacity and operational effectiveness.
In her remarks, Colonel Appolonia Anele expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, as well as the COAS for their leadership and guidance throughout her career. 
She described the recognition as a motivation to continue serving with renewed commitment.
The event drew attendance from notable personalities, including former Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman Kukasheka (Rtd), Colonel Mustapha Anka (Rtd), senior officers both serving and retired, family members, friends and well-wishers.
