In a bid to strengthen military operations and ensure respect for citizens’ rights, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has visited frontline units under Operation Safe Haven in Kaduna and Plateau States.
The visit is part of his ongoing operational oversight of Defence Headquarters-led initiatives.
Addressing troops at the newly established 2 National Mission Brigade in Samaru Kataf, Kaduna State, and Sector 8 in Mangu, Plateau State, General Musa emphasized the importance of safeguarding human rights during military operations.
He reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are committed to protecting lives and property while upholding the dignity of citizens.
“We are trained to respect and protect human rights,” General Musa stated. He urged the troops to intensify efforts in rooting out criminals from their hideouts and expressed his desire for a renewed and vigorous approach to counter-insurgency operations in 2025.
The CDS also warned against illegal practices that could tarnish the reputation of the Armed Forces. He encouraged teamwork among personnel to achieve greater operational successes.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, briefed the CDS on the security situation within the joint operational area.
As part of his visit to Southern Kaduna, General Musa paid homage to the Chief of Kagoro, His Royal Highness Agwam Ufuwai Bonet, acknowledging the traditional ruler’s support for troops operating in the region.
The CDS was accompanied to the 2 National Mission Brigade by Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District. Senator Katung commended General Musa for his proactive efforts in addressing security challenges in the area.
The visit underscores the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting citizens while ensuring peace and security across the nation.
