In a bid to address contemporary challenges facing the nation, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, embarked on a pivotal visit to the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday, May 3, 2024.
This strategic engagement forms part of the CDS’s efforts to collaborate with key stakeholders and enhance military operations across the country.
During the visit, General Musa commended the Governor of the Central Bank for his exceptional leadership and the implementation of monetary and fiscal policies aimed at mitigating economic hardships.
Despite acknowledging the enormity of challenges confronting the nation, General Musa expressed optimism, stating, “I can see light at the end of the tunnel.”
He further highlighted various impediments faced by the military in executing its duties and appealed to the CBN Governor to address these issues urgently.
One of the key points raised by General Musa was the inclusion of members of the Armed Forces in the CBN’s agricultural schemes to bolster welfare for both serving and retired personnel.
He reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to remain focused, professional, and resolute in securing the nation.
In response, the CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, expressed gratitude for the visit and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces in maintaining peace and security.
He assured the CDS of the Central Bank’s unwavering support and collaboration with Defence Headquarters, emphasizing the importance of military assistance in the CBN’s daily operations.
Mr. Cardoso reassured stakeholders that the CBN had recalibrated its strategy to prioritize monetary policies aimed at stabilizing the system, promising that normalization would soon be achieved.
This visit marks a significant step towards fostering synergy between the military and financial institutions to tackle prevailing challenges and ensure the security and prosperity of Nigeria.
