The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, attended the Northern Governors Forum meeting today, calling for a unified approach to tackling insecurity across the nation. During the event in Kaduna, General Musa emphasized the importance of a “Whole of Society” approach, advocating for strong collaboration between government, communities, and leaders from all spheres.
In his remarks, General Musa stressed that Nigeria’s security challenges can be surmounted only through collective effort. “By working hand in hand, we overcome the challenges before us and pave the way for a better future for Nigeria,” he stated. He urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in their mission to achieve lasting peace.
Highlighting the newly established Operation FASSAN YAMMA, a North West theatre command, the CDS noted its role in reinforcing the AFN’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. He assured the Northern Governors of the military’s full support for any initiatives they undertake alongside traditional and religious leaders to address security concerns.
General Musa commended the 19 Northern Governors for their steadfast support of the Armed Forces, expressing gratitude to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his continued backing of security initiatives, including the establishment of Operation FASSAN YAMMA. He also pledged the AFN’s unwavering loyalty to the President and his administration.
The Defence Chief highlighted the recently launched Presidential Livestock Programme as a critical step toward economic transformation, particularly in the agricultural and livestock sectors. He noted that the program has the potential to not only boost food security but also drive economic growth and create sustainable livelihoods for Nigerian citizens.
In his address, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, extended appreciation to the Armed Forces for their relentless efforts in combating insecurity across the region. Governor Yahaya also commended President Tinubu for establishing the North West theatre command, which he believes will be instrumental in addressing the region’s longstanding security challenges.
The meeting underscored a renewed commitment from both military and civilian leadership to address Nigeria’s security issues through an inclusive and collaborative approach.
