The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has condemned the tragic attack on the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State, which occurred in the early hours of January 9, 2025.

The explosion, carried out around 12:10 a.m., claimed the lives of two police officers—Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat—who were on duty during the attack.

In a press statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased officers, describing their deaths as a significant loss to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The IGP also assured the families of immediate disbursement of their entitlements, affirming that their sacrifice would not go unrecognized.

Determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, the IGP directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all necessary resources and work closely with other security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the heinous act.

He emphasized that no individual or group involved in the attack would escape justice.

The IGP further reassured Nigerians of the police force’s unwavering commitment to maintaining national security and holding accountable anyone who undermines peace and safety in the country.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the police have called on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could aid in the swift apprehension of the attackers.

The IGP’s firm stance against this act underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to ensuring the safety of its officers and the broader Nigerian community.
