The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on Nigerian youth to engage in dialogue and participate in initiatives aimed at self-development and nation-building.
This appeal was made during a meeting with a delegation of the Forum of Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants to Governors, led by the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives, Hon. Titi Gbadamosi, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.
In his remarks, Minister Badaru highlighted the ongoing reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
He pointed out the recent autonomy granted to Local Governments, which is intended to enhance development at the grassroots level and ensure more accessible governance.
The Minister also mentioned various palliative measures introduced by the President, such as the Social Security Intervention, Post-Subsidy Removal Presidential Grant, and Loans Schemes, which are designed to support Nigerians through state governments.
Focusing on youth development, Badaru emphasized the importance of initiatives like the Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program, and the Skilled-Up Artisans Initiatives (SUPA).
He encouraged youth to collaborate with key ministries and agencies, such as the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Bank of Industry (BOI), among others, to leverage the opportunities available for their growth.
Earlier in the meeting, Hon. Titi Gbadamosi reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to advancing youth development across Africa through dialogue, innovation, and collaboration.
She announced that the Forum would host an event on October 1st and 2nd, 2024, at the International Conference Center in Abuja. The event is intended to foster active participation of Nigerian youth in nation-building and economic empowerment.
The Minister’s call comes at a time when youth involvement in governance and development is seen as crucial for the nation’s progress.
The Ministry of Defence’s engagement with youth leaders underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that young Nigerians play a vital role in shaping the country’s future.
