The Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has praised the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its operational readiness and commitment to combating insecurity in Northwest Nigeria.
During a visit to the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina and Sokoto States on November 18, 2024, the Minister symbolically flagged off a reinvigorated air campaign aimed at neutralizing banditry and insurgency in the region.
Dr. Abubakar lauded the professionalism and bravery of NAF personnel, noting their pivotal role in improving security conditions. “Your bravery and professionalism serve as an inspiration to the Nigerian people.
We are witnessing positive changes: farmers returning to farms, children back in school, businesses reopening, and Nigerians sleeping in peace,” he remarked.
The Minister highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to bolstering NAF’s capacity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He pointed to investments in advanced aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles as evidence of this commitment, emphasizing their role in ensuring air superiority.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit, which he described as a morale booster for the troops. “Your servant leadership inspires us.
Your operational visits have heightened morale and renewed the fighting spirit of our troops,” he said. He also reaffirmed the NAF’s loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief and its dedication to restoring peace and stability in troubled areas.
The visit included inspections, discussions with field commanders, and briefings on the ongoing air campaign. A highlight of the day was a spectacular fly-past by NAF fighter pilots, showcasing the force’s operational prowess.
The Minister commended NAF’s effective use of intelligence and advanced technology to strike at bandit strongholds.
Dr. Abubakar’s visit underscored the critical role of air power in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens.
The reinvigorated campaign under Operation FANSAN YAMMA is expected to significantly enhance ongoing efforts to restore peace to vulnerable communities in Northwest Nigeria.
Air Commodore Olusola F. Akinboyewa, the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, described the visit as a demonstration of the government’s unwavering support for the military.
As the air campaign intensifies, the NAF remains resolute in its mission to secure Nigeria’s unity, peace, and progress.
