Attack on Peacekeeping Troops in Delta State Leaves 16 Military Personnel Dead: CDS Orders Immediate Investigation.


In a tragic turn of events, the peacekeeping mission to Okuama community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State turned deadly as troops from the 181 Amphibious Battalion fell victim to an ambush by local youths.

According to a statement by the Acting Director, Defence Information Brigadier General
Tukur Gusau in Abuja, the incident, which unfolded on Thursday, March 14, 2024, occurred amidst escalating tensions stemming from a communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

According to reports, the troops responded to a distress call, only to find themselves surrounded by hostile elements from the community.

The confrontation quickly turned violent, resulting in the death of several military personnel, among the casualties were the Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain, and twelve soldiers from the reinforcement team.

In response to the appalling attack, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has ordered an immediate investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.

The incident has also been brought to the attention of the Delta State Government for further action.

Despite the devastating loss, the military remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the nation.

Efforts are underway to not only bring the perpetrators to justice but also to understand the motives behind the brazen assault.

As the investigation unfolds, the nation mourns the loss of the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
