The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on personnel at the Command Central Engineering Depot (CED) of the Nigerian Army to maintain their innovative efforts in repairing and refurbishing combat platforms.
During his maiden visit to the Engineering Depot on Monday, 27 May 2024, General Lagbaja praised the team for their crucial role in rebuilding and repairing damaged combat vehicles, which are essential for ongoing military operations across the country.
Briefed by Commander Major General Babatunde Alaya, General Lagbaja acknowledged the depot’s significant contributions to sustaining operational momentum by providing swift engineering support to frontline troops.
He emphasized the importance of the CED in maintaining the Army’s equipment and highlighted its alignment with his command philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force.
The COAS commended the dedication of the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff at the depot for their role in revitalizing the previously dormant Central Engineering Depot.
He lauded the former leadership for their efforts in transforming it into a productive and innovative facility.
During his visit, General Lagbaja inspected various production sections and interacted with the personnel.
He was accompanied by Major General John Ochai, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General Lander Saraso, GOC 2 Division, and other Principal Staff Officers from the Nigerian Army.
The visit underscored the pivotal role of the Command Engineering Depot in supporting the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities and its commitment to technological advancement and innovation.
