Armed Forces Sustain Momentum in Nationwide Operations, Foil Oil Theft and Dislodge Terrorists


The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have intensified their efforts across various theatres of operation, recording significant successes in counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, and anti-crude oil theft campaigns during the week ending June 20, 2025.

According to a report released by the Defence Media Operations, troops demonstrated exceptional bravery and professionalism in their continued mission to safeguard lives and restore stability across the country.

In Borno State, intensified operations led to the surrender of numerous ISWAP and Boko Haram terrorists, including men, women, and children. Troops conducted coordinated offensives in several communities including Konduga, Gwoza, and Bama, killing several terrorists, arresting four, and rescuing two kidnapped victims. Seven logistics suppliers and collaborators were also apprehended in a separate operation.

Troops engaged terrorists in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states, resulting in the neutralization and arrest of several fighters. Three kidnap victims were rescued. Notably, 19 captives were released by terrorists who surrendered in Danmusa LGA, Katsina State, under the pressure of non-kinetic engagements.

In Plateau and Kaduna states, troops rescued at least eight kidnapped victims, killed multiple extremists, and arrested several suspects including a notorious kidnap kingpin. Similar operations in Benue and Taraba states led to the killing of two extremists and recovery of arms. Troops also arrested criminals in Nasarawa and Kogi states.

The campaign against oil theft recorded major wins with the recovery of over 221,000 litres of stolen crude oil and 28,000 litres of illegally refined AGO, valued at more than ₦250 million. Troops dismantled 16 illegal refining sites and arrested 27 suspected oil thieves. In Delta, Cross River, and Edo States, 10 suspected vandals and criminals were arrested, with arms, ammunition, and over ₦590,000 recovered.

In Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu states, five extremists were neutralized and nine others arrested. Troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and vehicles, while disrupting criminal and extremist hideouts.

The Defence Headquarters reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security nationwide. It emphasized the importance of public cooperation in intelligence sharing, which remains critical to sustaining the momentum of ongoing operations.

Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, affirming the Armed Forces’ dedication to transparency and engagement with the public.

“By standing united and working together, we can effectively address threats to our national security and build a safer, more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
