Armed Forces Intensify Operations to Secure Farmlands and Restore Peace Nationwide

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have intensified nationwide military operations in collaboration with hybrid forces and other security agencies, in a renewed effort to ensure security as the rainy season approaches. The operations are aimed at clearing safe corridors for farmers, enhancing food production, and bolstering national food security in line with the directive of President and Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement in Abuja, Major General Markus Kangye stated that the AFN, under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Gwabin Musa (OFR), remains steadfast in its commitment to national security and the welfare of its personnel. He emphasized that the military is not open to negotiations when it comes to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and the lives of its citizens.

From 8 to 15 May 2025, troops launched coordinated operations targeting terrorist strongholds and criminal hideouts across various theatres. Several terrorist camps were destroyed, kidnapped victims were rescued, and civilians affected by conflict received support and rehabilitation.

In a significant breakthrough, troops conducted successful operations in Suleja and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, where two notorious extremist informants and logistics suppliers—Zakari Abubakar and Aliyu Musa—were arrested. Another suspect, Rufai Abdullahi, an alleged ammunition courier, was apprehended in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Recovered items during these operations include firearms, ammunition, motorcycles, tricycles, mobile phones, cash, pumping and drilling machines, and vehicles.

In the Niger Delta region, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE foiled oil theft operations valued at over N103.9 million. Security operatives seized 68,875 litres of stolen crude oil, 31,166 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 2,250 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK). Additionally, they destroyed 18 illegal refining sites, 16 cooking ovens, 31 dugout pits, 19 boats, 34 storage tanks, and 79 drums used for illicit refining activities.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to conducting all operations within the confines of the law and international human rights standards. They urged citizens to continue their daily activities without fear and encouraged the public to provide credible information to support military efforts.

“The AFN will continue its relentless pursuit of terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements to ensure peace and stability across the country,” said Major General Kangye. “With the cooperation of the public and our partners, together we shall overcome.”
