Anambra Police Intervenes in Political Clash at Nri, Restores Peace and Launches Investigation

The Anambra State Police Command has intervened in a political disturbance that occurred in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area, successfully restoring calm and launching an investigation into the incident.

The altercation, which took place around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, 1st August 2025, was triggered during a political campaign rally when supporters of a political party allegedly pulled down three billboards belonging to a rival party. The action led to a brief disruption of peace in the area.

Responding swiftly to the report, the police facilitated a peace meeting between the affected parties. At the meeting, both sides agreed to replace the damaged billboards immediately, despite allegations that the removal was due to non-payment of signage fees.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, called on all political actors and their supporters to remain peaceful and abide by the law in the course of their campaigns.

To ensure transparency and preserve the integrity of the resolution, the Commissioner has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Political Desk. The move is aimed at upholding the agreement reached by the parties or, if necessary, conducting a more thorough investigation.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, order, and neutrality throughout the political process.
