In recognition of his exceptional service and unwavering commitment to public safety, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, was conferred with the prestigious Best Crime Fighter, Man of the Year 2025 award during the 2025 Press Week celebration organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
The high-profile event, which held at the iconic Transcorp Hilton Hotel in the nation’s capital brought together dignitaries from all walks of life including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Former Governor of Nasarawa State Senator Tanko Almakura, government officials, media practitioners, civil society leaders, security operatives, and traditional rulers — to celebrate excellence in journalism and public service.
This year’s theme, “Journalism in a Challenging World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy and Society”, set the tone for a robust conversation on the role of the media in promoting democratic values, civic engagement, and societal development in the face of growing threats to press freedom and professional integrity.
Amidst applause and admiration, CP Orutugu stepped forward to receive his award, expressing heartfelt appreciation to the media for the honour. 
In his remarks, he described the recognition as a strong motivator to deepen the fight against crime and sustain the security gains recorded across Anambra State.
The NUJ FCT, Council noted that CP Orutugu’s selection followed a rigorous evaluation of his operational strategies, community policing initiatives, and tangible results in reducing criminal activities across the country.
Since assuming office, CP Orutugu has been widely praised for his proactive approach to crime prevention, stakeholder engagement, and intelligence-driven policing, earning the trust of residents and security experts alike.
As the Press Week celebration continues, the award served not only as recognition of individual excellence but also as a symbol of the vital partnership between the media and security agencies in building a safe, informed, and democratic society.
