In a bid to combat the growing threat of terrorism across the African continent, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru Abubakar, has called for a unified effort among African member states.
Addressing reporters at the conclusion of a two-day High-Level Africa Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja, Minister Badaru emphasized the critical need for collaborative action to stem the influx of illegal arms across borders.
“We have resolved among the participating countries that each sub-regional body should organize itself and come together as a United Africa to develop means and strategies in partnership with the International Community to tackle terrorism and other related crimes in the continent,” stated Minister Badaru.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the Minister urged swift action to secure Africa from insecurity, expressing optimism that with concerted efforts, tangible progress can be achieved in the fight against terrorism.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of intelligence sharing and information gathering to identify the sources of funding and arms acquisition by terrorist groups, crucial steps in disrupting their operations and preventing cross-border movements.
The call for collaboration comes amidst escalating concerns over the spread of terrorism and insurgency across the continent, with various nations grappling with the challenge of securing their borders and safeguarding their citizens.
As African nations rally together to confront this shared threat, the hope is that unified action will lead to a more secure and stable future for the region.
Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, reiterated the importance of joint efforts in addressing terrorism and related crimes, underscoring the need for sustained cooperation among nations and international partners.
