AFN Concludes Probe of 16 Officers, To Arraign Those with Case to Answer

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations involving sixteen officers earlier arrested in October 2025.

In an update issued by the Defence Headquarters and signed by the Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, on Monday, the military said the comprehensive investigation has been completed in line with established procedures, with the final report forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in accordance with extant regulations.

According to the AFN, the probe examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected officers and found that some of them were implicated in allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, an act described as inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards expected of military personnel.

The Defence Headquarters stated that officers found to have cases to answer will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels to face trial in line with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.

The military assured that the process is aimed at ensuring accountability while upholding fairness and due process.

Reiterating its commitment to discipline and professionalism, the AFN said the measures being taken are purely disciplinary and part of its institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks.

“The Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority,” the statement said.
