Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is preparing to unveil a comprehensive 25-year Development Plan designed to chart a long-term pathway for economic resilience, infrastructural expansion, social development, and generational security.
Speaking with journalists at Government House, Umuahia, after this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, explained that the strategic blueprint is built around six major pillars. These include people and resources, growth and stability, among others, all geared toward transforming Abia into a competitive and forward-looking state.
According to him, the Development Plan seeks to stimulate a dynamic and inclusive economy by unlocking local potential and attracting global investment across critical sectors. He emphasized that the document reflects a shared vision meant to guide sustainable development for decades to come.
On the health sector, Prince Kanu highlighted the State Ministry of Health’s growing partnerships with several global health organisations, noting that these collaborations continue to position Abia prominently on the healthcare map. He revealed that recent reports from the ministry show that the various interventions have saved the state over ₦2.5 billion in healthcare costs and prevented numerous deaths.
He added that the Abia Global Medical Mission will, later this month, conduct a wide-ranging medical outreach in collaboration with the state government.
Providing updates on Project Ekwueme, the commissioner stated that 81 of the 102 Primary Health Centres earmarked for the first phase have been fully equipped and are now operational. He assured that the remaining 98 PHCs will be completed and functional by the New Year.
Addressing questions on unconfirmed reports of kidnapping incidents along the Owerrinta–Airport Road, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, dismissed the claims as unverified. He assured residents that the Otti administration remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, particularly as the festive season approaches.
