41st Anniversary Celebration: PCRC Passes Vote of Confidence on IGP Egbetokun

Urges Him to Ignore Armchair Critics Turned Activists

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, lauding him as an outstanding and exemplary leader.

Speaking during the grand finale of the PCRC’s 41st Anniversary celebration in Abuja, the National Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, applauded the IGP for his laudable leadership in steering the affairs of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He urged the IGP to remain focused and disregard what he described as “armchair critics turned activists” seeking to distract him from his commendable efforts.

“We are very proud of the current IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. If you are in a partnership with someone who is performing well, it is only right to reciprocate—and that is what we are doing now. Under his leadership, the narrative within the Force has changed for the better,” Olaniyan stated.

He further noted, “IGP Egbetokun’s leadership style is second to none. The Nigeria Police Force is among the best in the world. They are winning the war against crime and criminality. What our police officers need is the cooperation and support of citizens—not criticism. They require actionable intelligence and information to function effectively. Criminals live among us in our cities, villages, and communities, and we must volunteer useful information to assist both the police and other security agencies.”.

Olaniyan reiterated the Committee’s support for the IGP, urging him not to be discouraged by detractors. “We call on the IGP to continue the good work. If these so-called critics show up in hundreds, we will counter them with thousands of responsible citizens—professionals from all walks of life—who stand with the police,” he declared.

The PCRC Chairman also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Egbetokun as the head of the nation’s police, assuring that the Committee would continue to collaborate with the Force to restore pride and professionalism to policing in Nigeria.

Representing the IGP at the event, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ajao Wale, appreciated the vital partnership roles played by the PCRC in enhancing police operations. He assured that the Police Force, under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, would continue to operate professionally, uphold human rights, and ensure the safety of citizens and their property.

In a goodwill message, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede—represented by the Director of Civil-Military Relations, Major Gen. Remi Fadairo—reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to ending the security challenges confronting the nation.

He emphasized, however, that this goal could only be achieved with the active support of citizens through the timely provision of critical information on criminal elements.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the Committee and Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, appealed to citizens to assist the Police and other security agencies by supplying actionable intelligence that would help tackle crime across the country.

The event also featured the recognition of four selected police personnel and individuals for their exemplary service and outstanding performance.
