CDS Urges Corps Members to Be Security Conscious, Support National Peace Efforts

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has urged corps members across the country to remain vigilant, avoid misinformation, and actively contribute to safeguarding their communities as part of efforts to strengthen national security awareness and civic responsibility among Nigerian youths.

The call was conveyed during a sensitisation programme organised by the Defence Media Operations (DMO) at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Dakingari, Kebbi State, under a nationwide security awareness campaign taking place simultaneously in various camps.

Delivering the CDS’s message, Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor emphasised that youths remain the cornerstone of national development and must play active roles in promoting peace and stability.

She urged corps members to shun fake news, stay alert, report suspicious movements, and engage in productive ventures that contribute to national progress.

The Kebbi State engagement was led by the Deputy Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Abu Mawashi, who explained that the ongoing exercise aims to strengthen civil-military relations and equip young Nigerians with the knowledge needed to support national security efforts.

In his remarks, the Kebbi State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Bala Dabo, commended the Chief of Defence Staff and the DMO team for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

He revealed that the Dakingari orientation camp has been fortified with enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of corps members and expressed optimism that the training would help them make informed decisions in times of emergency.

Some corps members who spoke during the session appreciated the sensitisation exercise, noting that it had broadened their understanding of security issues and the role of citizens in nation-building. They also pledged to contribute positively to efforts aimed at ensuring a safer and more peaceful Nigeria.

The sensitisation exercise is part of the Defence Headquarters’ broader initiative to deepen security consciousness, foster patriotism among young Nigerians, and build a generation committed to national unity and peace.
